Creating a playlist

You can create lists of songs, called “playlists.” You might want to create playlists to suit specific moods, to organize songs with a certain theme, or to group songs you want to burn to a CD.

In addition to songs, playlists can include audiobooks, video, podcasts, Internet radio stations, PDFs, and other items. (You can listen to radio stations in a playlist only when you’re connected to the Internet.)

To create a playlist:

  1. Do one of the following:

    • To create an empty playlist, deselect all songs (click the iTunes window) and choose File > New Playlist, or click the Add button (+) in the bottom-left corner of the iTunes window.

    • To create a playlist containing selected songs, Command-click to select the songs and choose File > New Playlist from Selection.

  2. Type a name for the playlist.

  3. Click Music (or another item below Library) and then drag an item to the playlist. To select multiple items, hold down the Control or Shift key while you click.

To remove an item from a playlist, select it and press the Delete key (this does not remove the item from your library or hard disk).

You can also create Smart Playlists that update automatically based on rules you choose, or a Genius playlist created from music in your library that’s similar to the selected song.
